Field Trip Experiences
Come visit the Windsor History Museum on a field trip! Field trips are led by Museum Educators, as students typically rotate through stations exploring our historic buildings, primary sources, and comparing and contrasting past and present.
Grades 2nd & 3rd
Our standard field trip is geared towards Grades 2nd or 3rd and aligns with Colorado State Social Studies standards for these grades. Field trips typically last 2.5-3 hours and include rotations through our schoolhouse, farmhouse & beet shack, timeline or sources station (2nd) or source analysis station (3rd). The Windsor Fire Museum may also be available (please request on form, not guaranteed). You can also pair your field trip with a pre-trip classroom visit! See In-Classroom Outreach above.

In-Classroom Outreach
Museum Educators offer a variety of in-classroom outreach options for Grades K-12. All programs utilize artifacts from the museum education collection and/or primary sources. Programs can be paired with a field trip or stand alone.

- Out of District Schools: $25 per class
Each program is designed for one classroom. Educators can run back-to-back sessions to reach all classes on one day, or return over multiple days. Classes may be combined on a case-by-case basis. Contact the coordinator for more information.

Windsor Timeline—2nd Grade only
In this visit we will create a living timeline of Windsor history from the earliest inhabitants of Northern Colorado through today! We will think about how community changes over time and practice our timeline skills! *Can be adapted to Fort Collins* Aligns with 2nd Grade Standards in: Social Studies, Reading, Writing, & Communicating This is an approx. 30-60 min presentation.
Source Explorers 2nd Grade—designed for 2nd Grade, adaptable
In this visit we will explore the concept of "primary sources" as students interact with artifacts from our Education Collections, photographs, and other materials. As we interact with source's we'll understand how artifacts help us understand the history of our community and beyond. Aligns with 2nd Grade Standards in: Social Studies, Reading, Writing, & Communicating. This is an approx. 30-60 min program.
Source Explorers 3rd Grade—designed for 3rd Grade, adaptable
In this visit we will use visual thinking strategies to explore the stories of an immigrant family to Windsor and the concept of a “primary source” as students interact with artifacts from our Education Collection, photographs, documents, and other materials. As we interact with sources, we’ll understand how the lives of the Fritzler family were similar/different from our lives today and how they contributed to their new community. Great pre-field trip program! Aligns with 3rd Grade Standards in: Social Studies, Reading, Writing, and Communicating This is an approx. 30-60min program.
Moving to Windsor —designed for 2nd-4th Grade, adaptable
Students explore the concepts of westward expansion and immigration (and their links to statehood) through the stories of four historic Windsorites. This program focuses on people and the roles they played in Colorado’s history. With the guidance of Museum Educators, students will explore real artifacts from our Education Collection alongside other primary sources such as photographs, maps, and documents. Aligns with 2nd-4th Grade Standards in: Social Studies, Reading, Writing, and Communicating This is an approx. 45min-1hr presentation.
Ute STEM —4th Grade only
Designed by History Colorado and the three Ute Tribes, this interactive program explores how the Ute people survive and thrive in Colorado in the past and today using STEM. This program incorporates the history of the Ute people alongside activities that think about traditional ecological knowledge and modern understandings of STEM. Aligns with 4th Grade Standards in: Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, Reading, Writing, & Communication This is an approx. 45min-1.5hr presentation

Homeschoolers
Going to school at home? All of our learning resources are still available to you! Put together a group and visit us on a field trip or schedule an outreach program. We can host outreach programs on-site for Homeschool Groups or bring to a site of your choosing. Contact the Museum Education Coordinator at 970-388-9440 for more info or email us.
