Mission, Vision, Values

Our mission is to demonstrate gardening practices that are water wise and to grow healthy produce for the Windsor- Severance Food Pantry. Volunteers and staff work together to provide science- based education, a beautiful place to appreciate nature, and an opportunity to serve the land and the community.

Our vision

We envision a garden that remains committed to being a public resource for the community. As a free garden that is open to all, we provide a place for quiet, beauty, and reflection where visitors can connect with nature. We strive to reach new and diverse audiences through our visitors and volunteer base, and we encourage community partnerships to expand programming and educational offerings. To ensure that the garden is a sustainable public resource for years the next generation, we will plan strategically, increase advocacy for the site, and embrace the future with positivity and a growth mindset.

Guiding values

  • Teamwork: Our diverse group of staff and volunteers work collaboratively to achieve shared goals. We believe that each individual’s contribution is valuable. We strive to create a harmonious and supportive environment where both people and plants can flourish.
  • Education: We model lifelong learning and an ethic of sharing knowledge with each other and our visitors. We demonstrate research- based planting and growing practices to inspire our community to learn environmentally appropriate gardening.
  • Community: By connecting people with the land and food, the garden improves quality of life and strengthens the community that we serve.
  • Growing: We seek to grow our community, connections with one another and nature, the knowledge of our visitors and volunteers, and support for the lasting success of the garden.
  • Inclusivity: We see the garden as a community resource where everyone is welcome to learn and enjoy nature.
