Windsor Moves Forward with Two Park Projects

A bulldozer at Windsor Village Park removing playground equipment

Construction for two parks, Windsor Village Park and Village East Park, began Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

The Windsor Village Park project began in early 2021 with a goal to update the playground equipment. Throughout the project, the town held community meetings, conducted a voting poll, and engaged the residents to ensure their voices and choices were included.

On Jun 15, 2021, the community attended an in-person meeting hosted by the Parks and Recreation & Culture team and discussed plans, concepts, answered questions, and gave residents an opportunity to view two concepts and cast their vote on their favorite playground design.

On September 14, this week, the town of Winsor begin dismantling the playground to install the design selected by the community. Click here to view the design. Construction for Windsor Village playground replacement is scheduled to be completed in mid-November 2021.

“We are excited to build with the community in mind and provide what they are asking for,” said Tara Fotsch, deputy director of Windsor’s Parks, Recreation & Culture Department. “We are lucky to have a community that is highly involved in how we build and what is built on behalf of their children.”

On September 20, the town of Windsor will begin construction for the Village East playground. The park was partially closed Monday, July 5, 2021, after a fire burned a portion of the park and playground equipment at 865 East Edge Circle.

The three-acre park opened with a ribbon-cutting on July 11, 2019, and cost $1.3 million to build.

The Windsor Police Department continues to investigate the incident and ask that anyone who may have information related to the case should contact Detective John Grashorn at 970-674-6445 or via email at jgrashorn@windsorgov.com.
